Education Programs at Museum Village


CLASS TRIPS TO MUSEUM VILLAGE

Make a candle in the Candle Shop, attend a lesson in the school house, run the printing press, and visit a turn of the century pharmacy. Students can learn about natural science, harnessing energy, and the history of agricultural tools by visiting the many other buildings and exhibits around the museum’s green.

Class trips are $10 per person and include two workshops per class. Workshops are scheduled by class (15-30 students). Education programs at Museum Village

Helpful Information
Museum Village is a 19th century open-air museum that houses thousands of historic artifacts in approximately 20 buildings. We are strongly committed to education and offer engaging hands-on workshops and activities. In addition, our exhibits illustrate the transition from a rural to an industrial culture and economy in America, provoking thought and discussion about history.


Reservations:
To make reservations please call 845-782-8248 ext.23. Once you are registered, Museum Village will then provide documents which must be returned with the deposit for reservations to be confirmed.

Payment:
A non-refundable deposit of $50 per class is required to secure your reservation. The remainder is due on the day of the visit. Museum Village accepts cash, check, purchase order, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, or Discover card. If paying by check or credit/debit card, you must prepare ONE payment. School/group reservations require a minimum of 15 people or $150. Any additional people (more than 15) are $10/person.

Cancellations:
If cancellations are made three weeks before the scheduled trip, the deposit will be refunded less a $50 processing fee. If a group cancels within 3 days or does not show up, they can be billed for the full cost of the visit.
You may change your attendance numbers up to three weeks before the day of your visit. Numbers must be finalized three weeks before your date.

Hours:
Please call for hours and availability. Museum Village school programs are generally available from 9:45 AM to 2:00 PM, but scheduling can be flexible. Groups are scheduled September – November and April – June. The museum is closed December through March except for special events. Reservations may be made at any time and are first come first served basis.

Museum VillageWhat to wear:
Our programs are held rain or shine and some buildings are heated only with wood. Students will be out of doors between buildings frequently. Students should please dress appropriately for the weather.

Chaperones:
Two chaperones are required for each class. One adult (teacher, parent) is admitted free for every 10 students. Additional chaperones are admitted at $10 each. One-on-one aides and nurses always get in free. If parents are paying their own admission their individual admissions should be collected into one sum prior to the visit. Parents traveling separately from field trip buses should arrive at their school’s check in time.

Lunch:
Students may pack a lunch or may purchase food from our Snack Bar, which has both indoor and outdoor seating. Please let museum staff know if you would like the Snack Bar to be open during your visit.

Gift Shop:
The museum gift shop carries a variety of educational materials and period toys in a range of prices starting at about $1. Please let museum staff know if you would like the gift shop to be open during your visit.

Birthday Parties at Museum Village

Have a one-hour workshop choosing from:
  • Natural dying
  • Printing
  • Stenciling
  • Each child will bring home a hand crafted item
$150 for up to 10 children and two adults. Additional children/adults are $10 per person. This package includes a one hour hands-on workshop provided by a costumed interpreter. Goody bags unique to Museum Village can be provided at an additional cost.




Volunteering at Museum Village





Volunteers are critical to Museum Village!The Museum's volunteer program supports community involvement by providing supervised volunteer hours required by schools, religious programs and Eagle Scout projects. Volunteers play a vital role at Museum Village. Together they serve thousands of hours performing tasks that are necessary to fulfill the Museum's mission to educate visitors. We are always looking for individuals who have a special skill or trade or just extra time. Schedules are flexible to meet the volunteer's needs.
The Volunteer Experience
  • Assist with our special event weekends such as Civil War Weekend and the Haunted Halloween Evening.
  • Work in the curatorial department to help inventory collections, clean buildings and data entry.
  • Become a member of the marketing and development department to prepare materials for mailings or assist to create to handouts and brochures.
  • Work with our buildings and grounds crew to assist with general up keep of our buildings.
